Hi, I’m Sarah Beth!
Thank you for visiting my website! I’m an illustrator from Nashville, Tennessee and now live in Cambridge, England.
I spent most of my childhood drawing horses (though I’d never ridden one) and writing stories with characters that were always either named Chloe or Zoey. I guess I always assumed I'd grow up to be an artist! I received my BFA at Belmont University in Nashville, where I studied Fine Art with an emphasis in painting and drawing.
Upon graduation, I spent a brief spell working at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. However, my dream job at Disney (animator) and my actual job at Disney (cashier at a restaurant called “Restaurantosaurus”) didn’t quite match up. This, among other things, prompted me to move to Cambridge, England and get a masters in Children's Book Illustration.
I fell in love with illustrations for kids, but also unexpectedly fell in love with en plein air painting. I scoured Cambridge for the best painting locations with my gouache and paint brushes in tow. I believe my style evolved from just the sheer pressure of painting as quickly as I could to avoid the rain and stares of passersby. I try to bring this sense of immediacy into my studio work - it's one of the hardest things to accomplish!
